The Evo XG is a highly automated and fully equipped flexo press with a maximum production speed of 600 m/min. In particular, it is characterised by a solid and ergonomically well thought-out design. The printing of a wide variety of papers, some with a high recycled content, exclusively with water-based inks, as well as the reproduction of very demanding motifs, places correspondingly high demands on the technical equipment of the new flexo press.
Sustainable packaging
“Over the past decades we have developed into one of the most important manufacturers of sustainable and high-quality gift packaging in Europe. Every year we print more than 200 million linear metres,” says Jürgen Popp, managing director and owner of Zöllner-Wiethoff. “Only through efficient investments and technical development in production and logistics can we remain competitive in Germany as a business location.”
“But we want to use the new flexo press not only to print and finish fine gift wrapping paper, but also to produce sustainable packaging in high quality. With the Evo XG 8 + 1 we are technically well equipped for this,” Jürgen Popp continues. “Furthermore, we have a great deal of know-how in dealing with the substrate “paper” as well as with water-based printing inks and varnishes. This is where we differ from almost all our market competitors.”
Integrated gravure printing unit
Integrated in the new eight-colour flexo press is an additional gravure printing unit for front and back printing. “This opens up the possibility for us to print the reverse side with register accuracy in one colour in addition to inline finishing of the front side of the paper. Furthermore, with the gravure printing unit we can coat both sides of paper substrates with all kinds of varnishes,” explains Jürgen Popp.
Exclusively water-based inks
“For 50 years now Zöllner-Wiethoff has been working exclusively with water-based inks. The drying and ink application system (including reverse-side printing) of the Evo XG is 100% designed for processing water-based inks. This is where we clearly differ from the majority of our competitors,” says Jürgen Popp.
The versatile Evo XG is specially configured for printing and finishing paper grades with grammages from 30 to 200 g/m2 and board liners up to 300 g/m2. Foils can also be printed. The CI flexo press covers a printing width of 1450 mm, the maximum working width is 1500 mm. The automatic unwinder is designed for reel diameters up to 1500 mm and the rewinder for a maximum of 1300 mm.
“In addition to our new Die CI flexo press, we also have three gravure presses. With up to six colours and a maximum printing width of up to 1400 mm, they also partly enable inline reverse printing. These machines are also 100% designed for printing water-based inks,” Jürgen Popp concludes.
